Severe injuries and illnesses can affect a person’s ability to perform their professional duties. Before a patient returns to work after experiencing a life-altering medical event, they may therefore be asked to complete a functional abilities evaluation (FAE).

An FAE is used to determine what level of impairment or disability the patient is currently experiencing (due to their injury or illness) and what type of workplace modifications may be needed to ensure a safe, comfortable working environment.
