Sciatica & Back Pain

Though sciatica and back pain can feel similar, they’re two distinct conditions. The term “back pain” refers to pain that primarily affects the upper, middle, or lower back, while sciatica is soreness that radiates down from the lower back through the hips.

Back pain affects adults of all ages, whereas sciatica is more common in adults over age 40. Both conditions can be caused by a wide array of different injuries and illnesses, including herniated disks, degenerative disk disease, arthritis, bone spurs, strains, and poor posture.

Regardless of what’s causing a patient’s back pain, prompt treatment is critical. Without timely intervention in physiotherapy and chiropractic manipulation, back problems can escalate into serious, disabling injuries.
