Pre-surgical rehab, or “pre-hab,” consists of exercises and therapies designed to strengthen the muscles and joints prior to surgery.
Research shows that starting chiropractic treatments, massage, physical therapy, and physiotherapy at least four weeks before surgery significantly reduces surgical complications, speeds up recovery, and improves patient comfort. This is the case because building muscle mass and strengthening joints and connective tissue pre-surgery compensates for postoperative muscle loss and joint stiffness. Engaging in pre-hab can also lessen patient anxiety, as patients who take proactive steps to prepare for medical procedures typically feel more in control of their health.
