Physiotherapy involves using manual therapy, individualized therapeutic exercises, and patient education to relieve pain, restore mobility, improve cardiovascular function, and rebuild strength following injury or illness.
Conditions commonly treated with physiotherapy include workplace, athletic, and repetitive strain injuries, along with chronic pain disorders, brain injury, stroke, heart and lung disease, nerve and spinal cord damage, and cancer. Patients are also typically referred to a physiotherapist after undergoing surgery or amputation. In all cases, the role of the physiotherapist is to help the patient recover muscle and joint functionality, regain optimal health and quality of life, and avoid reinjury.
